Speaker Interview with Yandong Yao

Could you briefly introduce yourself?
I am an engineering director at Pivotal Greenplum which is an open source MPP database based on PostgreSQL. I have worked for Greenplum for about 10 years. I am also the founder of Greenplum Chinese community, and I live in Beijing, China.
How do you engage with the PostgreSQL Community?
I am one of the core member of PostgreSQL Chinese committee, and organize or attend local PostgreSQL/Greenplum conferences. Sometimes I will also attend global PostgreSQL conferences.
Have you enjoyed previous pgconf.eu or FOSDEM conferences, either as an attendee or as speaker?
This will be my first PGConf.EU, and looking forward to it.
What will your talk be about, exactly? Why this topic?
I will talk about what is HashJoin, and its implementation in PostgreSQL, and some of its derivatives, mostly Greenplum, as HashJoin is one of the most powerful weapons to tackle OLAP queries.
What is the audience for your talk?
There is no prerequisite for this topic. So welcome everyone who is interested in this topic to join.
What existing knowledge should the attendee have?
No particular prerequisite knowledge. SQL knowledge especially JOIN will be helpful, though I guess everyone who join PGConf.EU knows about JOIN ;)
What is the one feature in PostgreSQL 12 which you like most?
Plugable storage and partition enhancement
Which other talk at this year's conference would you like to see?
I am interested in many topics, just to name a few here:
Which measure, action, feature or activity would—in your eyes—help to accelerate the adoption of PostgreSQL?
More presence like conferences, social media. More case study about PostgreSQL success stories, trainings and certifications.
