Speaker Interview with Serge Rider
- Foreign tables modelling in UI
- Wednesday 17:00
- Parini
- Could you briefly introduce yourself?
- I’m Serge Rider, I am a passionate software developer and OS-enthusiast. I’m also an entrepreneur and CTO of DBeaver Corp.
- How do you engage with the PostgreSQL Community?
- I’ve participated in a few PgConf events before, two times as a speaker, once as a sponsor. Now I’m speaker and sponsor at once.
- Have you enjoyed previous pgconf.eu or FOSDEM conferences, either as an attendee or as speaker?
- I loved previous PgConf EU, PgConf RU, and PGConf IBZ. PgConf US was a bit more commercial that technical.
- What will your talk be about, exactly? Why this topic?
- We will talk about cross-database schema modelling and foreign data wrappers auto-configuration in PostgreSQL. We will use DBeaver as a UI tool for these tasks. Cross-database connectivity is one of the most challenging tasks while having some logical cross-database links is a very common situation in most businesses.
- What is the audience for your talk?
- PostgreSQL developers and DBAs. Any SQL/NoSQL database users who experience problems with cross-database data extraction.
- What existing knowledge should the attendee have?
- Some general knowledge about Foreign Data Wrappers would be good but not necessary.
- Which measure, action, feature or activity would—in your eyes—help to accelerate the adoption of PostgreSQL?
- Better documentation / support web site.
